How To Start In Trade School

A lot of people have misconceptions when it comes to the trades, and for many of these young students searching for their life paths, it’s not their fault. Overall, this country has pushed a bachelor’s degree and beyond as the only pathway to gainful employment for so long, it is causing shortages in other fields that require different educational paths. In addition, it’s not all grunt work.

Trade school graduates are an essential part of the economy and have specialized skills like welding, which command a respectable salary. Or, you could work for an Aircraft maintenance Miami provider, utilizing bootstrap kits in Miami to keep aircraft up and running. This is only scratching the surface of the 30 million jobs nationwide that pay an average of $55,000 per year and don't require bachelor's degrees. How can you get a piece of the action? It all starts with trade school.

One area where trade school graduates have a bit of a disadvantage is that you want to know exactly what you want to get out of your education before you apply. There may not be the resources that you have on campus that you have from a university. This has a positive side as well, though. Generally, trade school programs range anywhere from eight months to two years and are far less expensive than a comparable stay at a college. Depending on your program, you may graduate with an associate’s degree (the equivalent of what you would get after two years of community college) or a certificate acknowledging your successful completion of the program.

The ultimate focus of a trade school program is preparing you to either get a job in your field of choice right away or prepare for a licensing exam/apprenticeship. As a result, you want to do your due diligence when it comes to researching what has the best programs. In some cases, you hear stories of students from four-year colleges letting the prestige from their school carry them to work. This is less likely to happen in trade school, so you want to be sure that you make the right choice in the most educating program.

A good way to make sure this happens is to look at professional organizations for the profession you’re thinking about. These are easy to find online even for the most niche of fields. Simply bring up where people got their education and you’ll have a wide selection of different stories and opinions to work off.

The great thing about trade schools compared to traditional college is that once your mind is made up, there are a lot fewer barriers in your way when it comes to entry. No complex college applications or worrying about extracurricular activities. Even the SAT or ACT won’t play a major role in acceptance. Generally, as long as you are able to put together the necessary money and make time for your classes, you’re in. Don’t forget, you’re also paying a lot less, potentially enough to avoid dealing with student loans.
