Art and crafts came into existence, several thousands of years ago. With the advent of civilization, the forms and styles have changed a lot. New and unique forms of such activities came into existence. However, the age-old forms are not invalid at all. The type of artworks might have been modified or customized using different forms of technology and equipment. In the area of thread works, especially different forms of embroidery also, the same picture is seen. Each of the type of thread works are different from one another.



The type of using threads and needle for craft works that are used to decorate fabric or other materials with some specific design is known as embroidery. The form of art can also be incorporated with pearls, quills, sequins, beads, etc. The type of designs can be seen on caps, blankets, shirts, dress materials, stockings, etc. A wide variety and diversification of designs can be made with threads and yarns with the help of needles. Among the type of stitches used in embroidery works, satin, running, buttonhole, blanket, chain and cross are well-known. These can be said to be the fundamental stitches. However, several other stitches can be found with modification of the fundamental ones. Different coloured and qualities of threads are used.



The needle size and type also varies with each design as well as with each type of fabric or material used for creating the designs. For example, in a thick dress material, the size of the needle should be thicker in comparison to the one that is used for a thin satin cloth. Different types of creative designs can be made with the embroidery works. Several types of arts can be made like the flowers or leaves, any character, any scenery, any type of motifs or simply a painting with multi-coloured or single-coloured threads. It is the creativity of the artist who is associated with the work, how he or she can make form the project.



Some of the creations are outstanding. Usually, clusters are found in the village areas, where artists of similar skills form a cluster and they use their manpower and creative skills to make different designer clothes with such artworks. The artists dealing with embroidery works in Bury St Edmunds are found to be engaged with not only the fabric materials, but upholstery and other type of materials are also seen with such arts works.
