Perfecting Your Technique In Your Barre Classes Melbourne
Total Articles: 19
Barre exercise classes incorporates aspects of classical ballet, Pilates and functional movement to create a unique workout which effectively strengthens and tones the muscles of the whole body. Although barre is a great option for beginners, it can be a bit tricky to get the hang of at first. As one of Melbourne's leading providers of barre fitness classes, we're here to share our tips so you can get your barre technique just right.
Keep the movements small
It can be hard to get the hang of the small, isometric movements which are common in barre classes. These movements are designed to fatigue the muscles while also being low impact and they
generally require you to move only an inch or two. This can feel a little strange at first and many people find themselves making their movements too big. Keep an eye on the mirror so you can make sure your movements are teeny tiny for maximum results. Feel your muscles shaking? Don't worry, that's a good thing!
Tuck your tailbone
Tucking your tailbone under during barre can activate different sets of muscles and your teacher may instruct you to adopt this position for some of the exercises. When you tuck your tailbone, concentrate on contracting your stomach muscles and pointing your tailbone towards the floor - you should feel like your tailbone is directly underneath your shoulders. Try to keep your tailbone tucked under throughout the exercises so you work the right muscles.
For many of the exercises during your barre class, you'll be asked to keep your heels up to challenge the muscles of your legs. It's very easy to let those heels drop down as your legs get tired so focus on keeping them lifted up to get maximum benefit out of the exercises. Remember to keep your weight on the balls of the feet so you don't put pressure on your little toes.
Be present in the class
It's easy to start zoning out in your barre class, especially if you've been going along for a while - it happens to the best of us! However, it's important that you listen to your teacher as they'll give you technique tips and demonstrations so you get the most out of your class. Being present in the class also means that you can concentrate on contracting your muscles and challenging your body rather than simply going through the motions.
