Cybersecurity Education And Training - A Rising Concern For Businesses

Total Articles: 2

Cybercriminals constantly look for the weakest point in the system or find flaws in the all-in-one PC security software to gain access to your system or network. However, human beings themselves are the weakest points who allow the intruders to get access to the computer system or network unknowingly. With the advancement in the digital world, more and more people are becoming victims of dangerous cyber attacks. Although most of the cyber attacks are external, most of the problem arises due to internal factors.
Employees in an organization are the significant failure in the high-end security system of the organization as the cybercriminals attempt to lure them to click on the malicious links that might secretly install malware on the computer system. Cybercriminals trick the employees to reveal their login credentials or sensitive information about the company.
This way an organization, especially, big companies and Government agencies can lose critical information and its reputation because of failure in protecting the privacy of vital information. Therefore, it is essential that a company should first train and educate its employees on how to protect themselves against cyber attacks so they can protect the company against such attacks.
Identifying the cyber threats
Cybercriminals constantly make their devious attempts to make employees fall into their trap. They invent new strategies and tricks like phishing emails to trick them to disclose their Social Security Numbers, Username and passwords and any other critical business information.
Therefore, it is important to educate and train the employees in order to prevent them from falling into the traps of cybercriminals. To ensure this, the employers can send mock phishing email messages to check if the employees could identify the signs of phishing emails. Frequent phishing tests can help the employees identify the signs of phishing emails. The employees should be instilled with identifying signs of phishing emails like examining the web address, the domain name of the sender of the email sent and checking for spelling or grammatical errors. They should know that legitimate sources would never request you to send your login credentials or personal information.
Being careful when upgrading software
Employees may find alerts or website links that ask them to update software on their system. One must be careful while clicking on such links on the obscure websites as these might be compromised by malicious software or security vulnerabilities.
Using strong passwords
Most of the data breach happens due to a weak, stolen or default password of employees and their computer system. Employees should create a strong password to prevent unauthorized access to their accounts or system. Creating a strong password means using a combination of letters in UPPER CASE and lower case, special characters and integers. It should be minimum 8-digit long. Do not store your passwords on a sticky note or files on your computer system. Make sure your password is difficult to guess but easy to remember. Never use the default password and change it from time to time. Remember that more the number of characters you use in your password, the more difficult it is to crack.
Effective training, testing and enforcement of education modules
Employers should conduct tests and educational training to ensure the protection of information. The modules of an effective cybersecurity training should include identification of cyber attack vectors, risks, threat, prevention and remediation. Employers should conduct timely and flexible tests to ensure security from their end. An educated workforce can be the best internal defender of a company. Empower your trainees with the best cybersecurity education and training to reduce the internet security vulnerabilities.
