March 14 is known for Pi Day, Albert Einstein’s birthday, and now to add the list: Stephen Hawking’s passing.

The whole world was shocked with the announcement of Hawking’s passing. Scientists from all fields showed gratitude, on Twitter and Facebook, to the man who has theorized multiple breakthroughs in understanding the world –and everything around it—everyday. Although suffering from a motor neuron disease, Hawking is still considered a legendary being living in the 21st Century.

With the recent passing of renowned theoretical scientist Stephen Hawking this Pi Day, March 14, let’s take a look into what his great mind discovered in his 76 years of existence.

Hawking Radiation

When Albert Einstein suggested the existence of Black Holes and their strong gravitational pull that nothing can escape, Hawking disproved the claim by there are some things that can escape the black hole like photons and neutrinos.

Black Holes aren’t Black

Challenging his initial theory about black holes, Hawking shocked the astrophysics community once again and proposed that light can pass through a black hole but will be perceived as a totally different form at the end.

Big Bang Discovery

The whole theory of having the universe explode into a million pieces seemed impossible. But with the help of Robert Penrose, they theorized that the universe started as a singularity that created a reverse black hole (a big bang), creating everything we know.

Mind-boggling and shocking ideas, yet Hawking hasn’t won a single Nobel Prize in his life existence. All to most of his Stephen Hawking’s work are theoretical and have yet to be proven with actual science. Nonetheless, his ideas will remain to be discussed and further proven in the next generations to come.
