With each passing day as people are showing growing interest over technology and its various outcomes, researchers seem to emphasise more on products which are technically optimised to offer a wider range of benefits to the customer or client bases. Fire posing as a major threat in households and commercial units, needs to be controlled. Here again technology has proven how such natural force can be controlled. Considering the fact that textile is a common element which is inflammable, researchers after studying such phenomenon have come up with fire retardant textile which can withstand flame.

Whether it is the electronic devices at home or the appliances at office, you never know when a piece of fabric can catch fire due to electrocution of such gadgets. The demand for flame resistant fabric has helped give rise to synthetic textile which are also susceptible to flame. Synthetic fibres are considered inflammable. In order to control fire outbreaks at office or residential places, the textile industry has come up with an unparalleled solution, a coating that will help the fabric to not catch fire. They lend a flame retardant finish to textile in Melbourne. Polyester and nylon are among the fabrics which are widely known for being inflammable. Yet the fibre can be treated with a solution that will help keep away from fire outbreaks. Ignitable as they may be, synthetic fibres are known for being adaptable to different chemical treatments. Hence it easier for manufacturers to experiment with chemicals that promise to keep away fire.

Why is a flame retardant used?

There are several types of flame retardant chemicals available these days. The common variants have been explained below:

Tetrakis phosphonium salts are widely used on textiles. They are manufactured using phosphine gas which is passed on through a formaldehyde solution, also comprising hydrochloric acid and mineral acid.

Asbetos which is a mineral is often used for manufacturing of a flame retardant solution. There are also various other compounds like aluminium hydroxide, antimony trioxide and magnesium hydroxide which are used to create fire retardant coating for textiles.

In simple words the different types of flame resistant coating will include the following:

Chlorinated flame retardant
Brominated flame retardant
Nitrogen rich flame retardant
Inorganic flame retardant

Firstly the fire retardant chemical is applied to the fabric with an aim to withstand the combustion process. They help keep away from ignition, spreading of the flame and heating. These chemicals are especially manufactured to resist flame.
