How To Get Your Car Ready For Summer

High temperatures, at times touching 45 degrees centigrade or more, can play havoc with your car’s important systems. From paint to tyres, and from the engine to the AC, every system of your car is subjected to harsher than normal conditions in summer months. Therefore, it is imperative to take a few precautions so that you’re not left stranded in the heat owing to breakdowns. Here’re a few tips to gear up your car for the summer.

Check out the battery health
Excessive heat results in evaporations of battery fluids, which could lead to malfunctioning of the charging system. What’s more, dirt and corrosion accumulations can inhibit the current flow and result in battery draining at a faster rate. Get your battery checked before the start of the summer so that you can have trouble-free drive.

Ensure adequate fluid levels
Check the levels of engine oil, coolant and brake and power-steering fluids. The most important among them is the coolant level, as the cooling system has to work harder in the summer months to prevent overheating of the engine.

Air-conditioning
You can’t do without the car AC in summers. When the temperatures soar, driving without an effective AC could be quite difficult. Get the AC checked for gas leaks and other problems by a qualified professionalbeforehand to avoid problems at a later stage.

Tyres
No one likes to find himself with a flat tyre on a hot summer day. To avoid such a situation, make sure that all your tyres are in good condition with no cracks or uneven wears, treads free of small stones and stray nails, etc. Also, check your tyre pressure at a normal temperature using a pressure gauge and maintain adequate pressure at all times to reduce the chances of punctures.

Install a Dashboard Sunshade
Finding a covered parking slot wherever you go is almost impossible in crowded Indian cities. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can damage your dashboard and take away its shine forever. By installing a dashboard sunshade, you can protect it from ultraviolet rays and keep the cabin a little cooler. You can also get shades for rear side windows, which will prevent fading of rear seats to a large extent.
