2. Industrial Generators

Industrial generators start from 11kW and go up to 96kW. Their prices start from £5,000 and can go until £20,000. Usually, these generators provide their application in factories and sometimes even in network towers.

In the UK, industrial generators are used in schools and hospitals to support the National Grid. Mining operations, as well as transportation services like trains, also see the application of industrial generators.

These generators generally consist of the following components:

• Engine

• Alternator

The alternator generates electricity with the help of the engine which supplies the mechanics. This alternator consists of two components: rotor and stator. • Voltage Regulator

The voltage regulator converts AC power into DC or vice versa through a series of processes. It continues to do so until the engine reaches its full capacity. After that, the voltage regulator settles down and provides the required power to keep the generator at an optimum level.

• Fuel Tank

The fuel tank stores the petrol or diesel of the generator. A portable generator has a fuel tank capacity starting at 15 litres while an industrial generator can have a capacity of 230 litres.

• Exhaust System

Exhaust systems generally made out of steel or iron relive the generators of all the smoke and fumes emitted during its operation.

• Cooling System

Especially large generators that get heated over a prolonged period equip a cooling system. Usually, an exhaust does the job of cooling in portable as well as industrial generators.

In larger ones, water is the most common coolant used, but many a time, Hydrogen is also used. A secondary cooling unity with demineralised water receives the heat transferred by hydrogen.
