In the United States and the European Union, for example, the household size has been declining for a number of years now.
The trends of a family snapshot can be explained as a combination of the ageing grandparents on the background, the parents and the young generation that looks energetic and bright (Taylor, 2014). It is because the family has evolved over time, going through phases of transition. The family structure has been changing continuously due to turbulences of life. If, for instance, one compares a 1960 snapshot with today’s family, one can clearly see that the family setup and size has tremendously gone down.
Stars are like an extended family known as a galaxy. A galaxy is a representation of a block of stars that have lived together for billion years. Stars are generated from a cloud of dust and are scattered throughout the galaxy. The cloud collapses and the hot core forms the stars. The cloud does not necessarily collapse at a steady pace but slowly. As in the case of a family, the grandparent is the oldest in a family setup and the largest. In the case of stars the largest stars have the shortest its life is.
When stars lose the outer layers, the core becomes exposed; this gives rise to a dwarf star like the sun. The reason that these dwarf stars do not collapse is because the fast moving electrons within the stars keeps them intact (Irawati, 2013). The whiter a dwarf star is, the smaller the diameter it has, and the heavier the star becomes. Astronomers speculate that white dwarfs may cease to exist or drag energy from the nearby stars and becomes new again or become novae. The stars whose mass nears the solar mass limit; may collapse and explode leaving behind a black hole. It is the same case with human beings; if one reaches the threshold of life, dies leaving a gap in the family. The person is not deleted from the family photo. A black hole is the remains of a collapsed cellar core of the star. It is a hollow dense object with infinitely large gravity that nothing can escape it including the light. When the cellar core explodes, dust and debris may be left behind. These remnants mix with the surrounding interstellar dust and gas; they are recycled providing blocks for building new generation of stars.
In an extended family, the children, parents and the grandparents may opt to live under on roof or not. It may also include multiple generations who have lived as a family. It is the same case with the stars. They live together for billions of years with some exploding and others being formed from the remnant materials of the exploded ones. When stars reach some age and mass, they either gather materials from the nearby stars and regain energy or explode and cease to live. It is the same case with human beings. It reaches a certain age in life, and one has to get support and help from the siblings or they become weak and die. As it is the case with an extended family, the children are full of energy, bright and strong. The grandparents looked weak and worn out. With the stars, the older the star is, the brighter it becomes as it can attract materials like hydrogen from the weaker and newly formed stars and rejuvenates its energy.
