A thrill as cricket is hard to find in any sports. In running or athletics, it’s about single players, in football, it’s about a team of players, but cricket is about everything any sports can offer. Team work, individual endeavor, technical skills, ground conditions and the most thrilling one, unexpected twists.

None other than the second semi-final match of world cup 1999 can be a classic example of thrill of cricket and its unpredictability. This particular match is regarded as one of the best in cricket and especially for world cup cricket live scores. The match was between Australia and South Africa at Birmingham, England. Match tussled over the teams to seal the final berth of the tournament. The moment of the match involved a strange case of Lance Klusner and Allan Donald, the strikers of South Africa. The last over, precisely, the fifth ball, was certainly a heart-breaking pinch for South Africa and blessing from heavens for Australia.

Australia scored 213 runs batting first, followed by South Africa. The inning was bolstered with imperative half centuries off Steve Waugh and Michael Bevan. The team was struck by Shaun Pollock and Allan Donald, the top bowlers of South Africa. The players shared nine wickets in the match. Bevan’s 65 runs off 101 balls was the highest. Steve Waugh scored 56 off 76 balls.

Chasing the score of 213, South Africa began losing wickets after 12 overs. However, by the 15th over, the team lost three wickets falling to 53 for 3 wickets. The middle order formed sturdy partnerships featuring players like Jacques Kallis and Jhonty Rhodes, final resting down to Lance Klusener. The former players added 40 runs together to take out the chase from a miserable condition. However, the batting line slackened leaving the final mile to Klusenar and Alan Donald. The latter was the 11th player, the last stand of the team.

The twist came up in the final over with South Africa at 205 for 9. The team required 9 runs to win from 6 balls. On strike was Lance Klusener, the other end guarded by Allan Donald. Steve Waugh gave Damien Fleming the last over to defend. The over began as the most thrilling stretch of the match. Surprisingly, Klusener drove two boundaries off the first two ball taking away the chances from Australia. The match was on South Africa’s side with the team requiring 1 run off four balls. The match was leveled at this point.
Before letting the third ball hit, Australia captain Waugh brought his players to the inside circle as the batsmen required only a single run to win. Klusener missed the third and the fourth as well. But the batsman ran for a run, in a highly unprecedented move. It was quite a suicide mission, the batman putting the wickets as bets. As Klusenar ran, he called Allan Donald and the other end. But Donald did not hear him kept idle watching the ball. This was the turning point.

Klusener ran to the opposite end, while Donald started when the former almost reach the stumps. The result was quick and evident. Donald was out before reaching half-way down the pitch. South Africa lost its last wicket, drawing the match. This promoted Australia to final fixture of better match points. This incident of a world cup match is one of most thrilling climax in cricket, making the game ever green.
