Released in 1990, Baap Numberi Beta Dus Numbri is one of the most entertaining Hindi movies of that era. It is a comedy movie, but the actual premise revolves around a serious issue. The evergreen Kader Khan plays the role of Raman, a conman who is teaching his son, Prasad, the tricks of the trade. Shakti Kapoor, who plays the role of Prasad, is at his comic best. The father and son figure out unique methods to cheat people in Mumbai. Raman had even cheated his sister after she became mentally sick and took over her entire property. He had admitted her to a mental hospital, and this has caused her sister to get separated from her own son. This movie, Baap Numberi Beta Dus Numbri is still considered by many as one of the best con movies of the Hindi film industry. Although released so many years back, this movie continues to get applauded till this day.

Kader Khan at his best

Kader Khan created magic on the screen while portraying the role of the conman Raman. He himself had penned the script of the movie, and nobody can deny the fact that he did justice to his role. His comic timing was impeccable as he managed to strike the right chord at the right time. Kader Khan even received the Filmfare award for Best Comedian for this role.

Shakti Kapoor’s performance

Shakti Kapoor plays the role of Prasad, Raman’s son, and his performance in the movie is only second to that of Kader Khan. Prasad learns how to trick people from his father and even surpasses him when he grows up. He is the perfect partner-in-crime for Raman (no pun intended), and they go on to harm and dupe a lot of people. Shakti Kapoor has gone on to act in many fun films in his long career, but his performance in this movie surely deserves a special mention.

The plot

Although Baap Numberi Beta Dus Numbri provides quite a few instances where people can laugh their heart out, there is a darker side to the story too. Raman has duped his sister and put her in a mental institution after usurping her property. Her son, Ravi, later finds out about this betrayal and plans to take revenge. He devises a plot to turn the father and the son against each other. As the story progresses, Raman comes face-to-face with his sister, however much he would have desired to avoid it. The tables are turned, and the father-son duo is made to answer for their crimes. This storyline and acting made Baap Numberi Beta Dus Numbri the 8th highest grossing of the 90s.
