"Industrial design or industrial product design is the designing process of products that are to be mass manufactured. The product is designed before being manufactured by automation on a large scale. A thin line of difference separates industrial design and product design; the industrial design is product design on a large scale for mass manufacture. Industrial designers work with professionals from other fields to create the design and concept for a product to be manufactured. There are various institutes offering industrial design courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate, as well as a diploma in product design .

If you want to get a job as an industrial product designer, you need to have a bachelor’s degree or a diploma for the same, depending on the preference of the company you are applying to. Here are some of the things that you can do as a product designer:

• You would be responsible for what a finished manufactured product would look like, its design, aesthetics, as well as utility.
• You have complete creative freedom to design a product for a client.
• You can improve the design and ergonomics of a product already in the market, to make it more appealing to consumers.
• There is always the chance that you create something iconic that would go down in history as being synonymous with the product being marketed, for example, the iconic design of the ambassador car is unique and immediately identifiable as an ambassador among thousands of cars on the streets.

Diploma courses in industrial product design are short duration courses that focus on the practical applications of product designing basics and make you ready for the job market faster. A diploma in product design course is also provided by some institutes all over the country.

Industrial design courses give you the skills and expertise necessary. Product designing is an amalgamation of art and engineering, and technical knowledge is imparted by designing courses. Imaging software to render a product idea in three dimensions are used to create visual descriptions for clients. As a designer, you generally specialise in a particular category of products, and hence work in a specific industry, like healthcare, automobile, consumer electronics, etc. Industrial design courses also give you the requisite skills to deal with other professionals ranging from materials expert to market strategist, with whom you would have to work to make the final viable product."
