Fixtures When Four Innings A Day Became Test Cricket News

In history of Test cricket, there has been only three Test so far where a single day had the parts of all the four innings of a match. The first such Test was between England and West Indies at Lords, the second such incidence happened in the match between New Zealand and India at Hamilton. The third event was between South Africa and Australia at Cape Town. The first two events were in the years 2000 and 2002. The latest one was in 2011. The matches became the unique events when the particular Test days became the top test cricket news.

In the Lords match between England and West Indies, the latter won by 2 wickets. West Indies scored 267 runs batting for 89.3 overs. England replied the visitors with a slackened chase. The team toppled down in 134, losing all wickets in 48.2 overs. In their second inning, West Indies faced a severe wobble being all out in only 54. The inning lasted for only 26.4 overs. Batting in the second over, England added another 191 runs for 8 wickets winning the match.
The match was over before the end of the third day. The second day of the match had all the four of the innings played. The first inning continued to the second day. England first inning as well as West Indies’ second inning were completely played in the second day. By the end of the day, England’s final inning started to continue to the third day.

In the second event, New Zealand overtook India by 4 wickets. The match was at Hamilton in the last month of 2002. It is one of the matches with the lowest score in Test format. India scored 99 and 154 in its innings, while New Zealand replied with the score 94 and 160. The match was, in fact, washed out with rain. The first day of the match was abandoned. In the second day, India started its first inning. The match started late.

In this match, it was the third day, which featured all the four innings. India continued its first inning play to the third day. England started chasing with its first inning before the morning session was other. The team played 38.2 overs ending the stretch before the afternoon session was over. India came up to bat, but the team was again all out in 43.5 overs with the score of 154. The day ended with New Zealand batting their second inning leaving the rest of the play for the next day. This is the only match in Test history were both the teams scores below 100 runs in their first innings.
