It is not too uncommon to notice a crack on a brick-wall. While some are hairline cracks, many may be wide enough. It doesn’t only make the house risky to live, but affect other parts badly. Often it becomes a top reason of termite infection, damp, concrete cancer and even collapsing of a structure all of a sudden. So, before you hire Sydney CBD based civil contractors to fix the issue, read this article to know some factors about wall-cracks.

Hairline Cracks Aren’t So Innocent
Mostly we ignore hairline cracks assuming that it’s just a crack mark on the paint. While in some cases it may be right, one always should get it inspected by a professional. These are the early symptom of a structural fault which can become destructive suddenly and cause a severe accident. Generally most of the cracks appear first on the top part of a wall or just above the door or window and so, keep an eye on those parts. At least twice in a year one should thoroughly check those areas and in case they detect any such crack, immediately call the experts.

Horizontal Crack vs. Vertical Crack
Horizontal cracks are very common on the joint areas of wall and ceiling and mostly it is caused due to settling of the foundation. When a house is completed and the foundation gets the full load, it may sink a couple of millimetres and in case it is not consistent on all sides of the foundation, it can cause horizontal cracks. On the contrary, a vertical crack can give you a serious indication of an issue with the structure. If it is situated in the corner of two wall-joints, it can be a bonding issue. If it is located just above any door or window, you can think that the top horizontal support of the door or window isn’t enough able to bear the weight of the wall. However, if it is situated anywhere else, it’s time to be worried – your foundation has shifted improperly either due to earth-quake, consistent jerk caused due to passing of heavy vehicles or train just beside your house or might be due to a flood in your area recently.

How to Fix a Crack on Brick Wall
There can be several methods depending upon the crack type and reason. One need to consult with the Sydney civil contracting services to finalise a method. While in some cases minor work like applying some putty can be enough (in less serious cases), others may require rebuilding the wall, if not something even detailed.

However, it is always recommended to hire best team as they can provide you a better solution at a cheaper cost. Remember, it’s not all about fixing the issue that you see – you also have to fix the root cause so that it doesn’t come back again within a few years. And never ever ignore a crack just because it doesn’t disturb you directly. It can be too costly at some time.
