Many people are familiar with the basic cleaning implements: brooms, sponges, toilet brushes, baking soda, chemical cleaners. These things can do basic light cleaning work at homes and offices and but they do nothing for thick gunk and more stubborn stains. Industrial settings create industrial levels of grime, and a bucket of water and a brush simply won't cut it. For that, you need to bring out the big guns. Deep stains require deeper cleaning and the only way to remove all traces is to use a powerful cleaning tool. Enter the pressure washer.
The pressure washer has allowed people to clean everything, from oil pools and dried paint to moss and mould growth. The cleaning process has never been this fast and easy thanks to this marvellous machine. People from all walks of life, from regular homemakers and professional cleaners to managers and other white-collar workers, have used pressure washers to get surfaces clean and sparkling again. Less time wasted on arduous cleaning work is more time dedicated to more pressing matters. Cleaning has never been this easy and powerful.
Not all pressure washers are alike, and they come in a wide variety of types and sizes. Some washer models, like electric pressure washers, are ideal for home and light commercial use. Others, such as petrol pressure washers, can strip a factory or workshop clean of industrial dirt and grime. You have to match the pressure washer to your requirements otherwise you're just wasting time and money.
I know that you just want to get a pressure washer that can clean fast and easy, but it's not as simple as that. You have to be familiar with the different kinds of pressure washers and understand how the machine works.
Here are a few things you should know so you can select the right washer for you.
1. Meet the machine
Pressure washers can be categorised according to its target market.
Domestic pressure washers are aimed at the residential and light commercial market. They are often powered by an electric motor and can perform basic to mid-range cleaning work. Since there is no engine, domestic washers do not emit noxious fumes and are quieter. These models can be used for indoor cleaning and maintenance is easier to perform as well.
Petrol pressure washers, on the other hand, are designed for industrial cleaning. Due to the engine, they can only be used outdoors. However, this model is easier to move around due to the absence of a power cord. Industrial pressure washers represent the cream of the pressure washer crop.
2. Check the requirements
Make sure that you can supply the water requirements of the specific model you chose. At the minimum, your water supply should be able to support the basic requirements of your pressure washers.
It's not simply an issue of having low flow. Connecting your pressure washer to a mains with insufficient supply can ruin the unit. Low water pressure could cause cavitation damage, potentially destroying the machine.
While your home water supply might be enough for an electric pressure washer, you need to upgrade your water connection when using a petrol pressure washer.
3.  Get a good hose
A good pressure washer should be partnered with a long and strong hose. Some pressure washers are sole with an 8 to 10-metre hose, with marketing material claiming that the length is good enough for most cleaning. Allow me to tell you that 8 metres aren't enough.
Get a pressure washer with a hose at least 15 metres long. Also, check if the pressure hose can sustain the pressure from the machine without leaking or warping. If your desired pressure washer doesn't come with a long hose, buy it separately instead.
4. Know what you need
You want to get a pressure washer that fits your cleaning requirements.
Electric pressure washers usually produce water pressures of up to 2000 PSI. This should be enough for basic and light commercial cleaning.
If you want to go higher, get a petrol pressure washer. You are guaranteed a deep clean and these models can create up to 4000 PSI of pressure.
