Tips On Improving Your Left Hand On The Piano

Whenever you have to play a two-hand chord, it is important to utilize both hands. This piece will help you learn how to exercise your left.

1. Try to play every song you know with your left hand

Try to use the Left hand to play what you'd normally play on the right hand. It sounds like a simple task, but if you do not practice it often, it will continue to be a real challenge. Don't worry too much about your bass note; this is a simple exercise and not show. You should keep playing chords for some time. You can play anything you'd normally play with your right hand. Try playing the piano for an hour every day without using your right hand.

2). Slow down

Many professionals keep stressing this point over and over again. You need to slow down a bit to a turtle speed" for accuracy and to allow your muscles memorize the placement and movement. As you continue to repeat this motion over a stipulated period, the memory muscles will become sensitive, and you will gradually gain speed just like you do with the right hand. Don't ever rush the whole thing.

3). Practice Hanon exercises

Even the professionals you know can't fully know the 60 steps involved in practicing Hanon. So, you should continually work on this and try to build hand and finger speed, agility, dexterity, coordination, strength, consistency and more. Hanon exercise was introduced by one Charles Louis Hanon some ages back, but it has remained useful even till date. As stated earlier, you will observe that your right hand is capable of doing piano exercises better than your left–but you shouldn’t give up easily. It's a gradual process. If there is a need to break them apart, start using each finger separately at a slow and manageable pace. As time goes on, you can increase the speed as you add both hands to the equation.

Final Words

Whenever you are practicing, practice hard. Don't start looking for the result before getting there. Allow your muscles to rest at intervals and let your mind incubate. It will return with a swift determination, and you will eventually attain whatever you've set out as your objective. After all, nothing worthwhile will ever come by easy.
