When Sri Lanka lost the ODI series to India by 5-0, the team might have faced its worst form in action and the reactions it could bring. The series was one sided with India’s excellence in both batting and bowling. Concisely, the India’s dominance was overwhelming in the series. What worsened for Sri Lanka is the consecutive lost in the previous format. Ahead of the ODI series, Sri Lanka lost the Test series to India by 3-0. The turmoil over the stadium in the second ODI had a strong background on Sri Lanka’s wobbly form in the game. Meanwhile, India player reached feats in batting and bowling, all reaped away from the Lankan counterparts.

Still, Sri Lanka’s hope for a direct entry to Live World Cup Cricket Match. West Indies on its tour to England was also hanging down the bottom of ICC chat. To remain in eighth position, the team required a win of at-least 4-0 in the five match ODI tournament. Although, West Indies is the global T20 champion, in ODI, England is through a better form. Under this circumstance, expecting West Indies to win four matches in the series was rather off limits.

While the team was being thrashed in the recently concluded tournament, its selection panel headed by Sanath Jayasuriya resigned. It was a conclusion to a long running debate about the ex-cricketers’ approach to the game. However, it is not a solution to the low ebbed condition of cricket of the team. Sri Lanka would need a shuffle within the team to create a new order and makeover the primary XI. Fitness has been a serious issue in the match and the management must control it with ingenious strategies.

Furthermore, Sri Lanka cricket must emphasis on the coaching ensemble of the team. The coaching and practicing on nets is the key to remain fit for the game. If players injure their calves, fingers, hamstring while playing and remained dropped due to fitness, no selectors can insure better players to win a match. It is up to the players to play without any injury with right techniques. Thus, coaching is significant addition to improve this facet.

Sri Lanka did never lose its hope to qualify directly in World Cup. The cap of September 30 limiting direct entry has locked the position for the team. On the other hand, West Indies slipped to the group undergoing a League tournament for World Cup entry. Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe, along with West Indies will now play for the entry. Two teams from the group will be elevated as the ninth and the tenth team in ICC World Cup entrants.
